1. Shipping Routes and Ports

Your container will travel via sea freight. There are no direct sailings from the Middle East to Fiji. Your shipment will stop at a major transshipment port in Singapore, Malaysia, or Australia before transferring to a Pacific-bound vessel.

Fiji has two primary ports for international sea freight:

  • Suva Port: The main entry point for the capital on the eastern side of Viti Levu. Most household containers clear customs here.
  • Lautoka Port: The best option if you are moving to the western division, such as Nadi or the Coral Coast.

Transit Time: Expect 45 to 65 days port-to-port. Budget 7 to 10 weeks total until the goods arrive at your residence.

2. Dubai to Fiji Shipping Costs

Your final quote depends on the volume of your items, measured in Cubic Meters (CBM). Shipping to the Pacific is a long-haul route. Prices reflect the distance and transshipment handling.

Estimated Door-to-Door Costs

Service Type Volume / Home Size Est. Cost (AED)
Shared Container (LCL) 5 to 10 CBM (Studio) 9,500 to 14,000
Dedicated 20ft ~25 CBM (2-Bed Apt) 22,000 to 29,000
Dedicated 40ft ~50 CBM (4-Bed Villa) 35,000 to 45,000

Final pricing depends on destination handling charges in Suva or Lautoka, biosecurity inspection fees, and the distance from the port to your final address.

Note: Use our free Moving Volume Calculator to get an exact CBM count before requesting quotes.

3. Customs Clearance and Duty Relief

Fiji customs procedures require accurate paperwork. You must follow the rules set by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS).

The Duty-Free Exemption Non-citizens holding an employment or residence visa for more than 12 months can apply for an exemption on used household goods. Returning Fijian citizens who have been away for more than 12 months also qualify.

To clear your goods, you must complete the CE111 form (or unaccompanied baggage form). All shipments are subject to Quarantine examination and inspection fees.

Items Requiring Permits You cannot pack certain electronics without prior approval. Telecommunication equipment, fridges, freezers, and drone devices require an import license or permit before importation. Customs will hold your container if you ship these without the correct permit.

Food Items Processed food may be imported in limited quantities. It must have English labels and a visible expiry date. It is safer to leave all food items out of your shipment to avoid delays.

4. Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) Rules

Fiji protects its local agriculture heavily. All household and personal effects entering Fiji are subject to Bio Security inspection. The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) inspects arriving containers for pests, soil, and plant diseases.

You must clean every outdoor item completely. Scrub golf clubs, bicycles, camping gear, and garden tools free of dirt and grass before packing. If BAF inspectors find Dubai sand or soil on your belongings, they will order fumigation at your expense.

5. Required Documents and Cosigning

Before you leave the UAE, your shipment has to legally exit. Your moving company handles the origin customs process.

Your Essential Documents Checklist:

  • An AWB or OBL (a Seaway Bill is recommended).
  • A color copy of your Passport ID Page.
  • An inventory list written in English.
  • Your Tax Identification Number (TIN). This is mandatory and obtained via frcs.org.fj.
  • Your visa grant letter or passport visa stamp.
  • A completed CE111 customs form.

Cosigning Details When setting up your shipping documents, your forwarder should use specific consignee formats for Fiji. The consignee section on your Bill of Lading should list your name as it appears on your passport, care of your destination agent in Fiji.

6. Importing a Car

Shipping a UAE-spec vehicle to Fiji requires following Land Transport Authority (LTA) rules.

Exemptions apply for returning citizens or non-citizens with an employment or residence visa who have owned the vehicle for more than 12 months.

You need a Certificate of Ownership, a Passport ID page copy, your Tax ID, and an Export Certificate. You must provide a Certificate of EURO 4 or a JEVIC Report. The vehicle is subject to Land Transport Authority inspection.

Fiji drives on the left side of the road. Vehicles must be Right-Hand Drive (RHD). Shipping a Left-Hand Drive (LHD) car from the UAE is not permitted for road use.

7. Ship vs. Sell: Plugs and Appliances

Transit takes over two months. Packing smart is critical.

What to Ship:

  • Furniture: Good quality furniture is expensive on the island.
  • Electronics: Fiji uses 240V/50Hz. This is highly compatible with the UAE's 230V/50Hz. Your TVs and consoles will work safely. Fiji uses the Australian-style Type I plug. You will need adapters for your UAE Type G power cords.
  • Clothing: The tropical climate is perfect for your UAE summer wardrobe.

What to Sell in the UAE:

  • Fridges and Freezers: These require special import permits. It is easier to sell them in Dubai and buy new ones in Suva.
  • Uncleanable Outdoor Gear: Leave heavily used camping gear or gardening tools behind if you cannot scrub them spotless.

Do Not Ship If:

  • You are relocating for less than 12 months.
  • You do not have your visa or Tax Identification Number (TIN) sorted.
  • Your shipment value is under AED 15,000.
